Description: A medium-sized tree found on dry to moist soil of bottomlands and uplands in the eastern and southeastern U.S. The leaf is composed of 7 to 9 leaflets, covered with dense hair underneath and is velvety to the touch. Fruit is thick shelled and is eaten by some wildlife species and humans. The wood is hard, strong and tough, and has many uses including tool handles, baseball bats and smoking meats.
